5 Ways to Practice Self-Kindness
In order for you to be kind to others, you must be kind to yourself. To give others the best version of yourself, you must give yourself the utmost care and attention. The key is to purposefully practice self-care and self-love with the intention of developing a great relationship with your inner self. It helps guide your mental and emotional health to a better-feeling state, which in turn manifests better-feeling circumstances in your daily life.
Self-care is the priority.
Self-care can mean treating yourself to a spa day or getting a manicure, but can also mean taking just 30 minutes for yourself to be completely unbothered and simply relax. To keep it consistent, be sure to make time to schedule the things that will make you feel good, as your schedule allows, and intentionally focus on using that time to unplug. Whichever way you decide to practice self-care, be sure to always keep it at the top of your priority list!
Positive self-talk.
Positive affirmations may seem a bit awkward at first, but repeating daily positive affirmations about yourself will evoke good-feelings and will help shift your perspective and perception of yourself. Try simply changing the tone of your thoughts about what you do daily, by saying things like “you’ve got this!” or “you’re going to crush it!” whenever you feel nervous about a specific task or meeting. You can also implement positive self-talk by reading yourself affirmations a few times a day. Simple saying “I love you.” to yourself in the mirror 3 times a day will do a great deal of good to further your loving relationship with yourself.
Treat yourself.
This one doesn’t require too much of an explanation. Whatever it is that makes you feel good, do more of it! Know that treating yourself to things that make you feel good will allow more good things to flow into your life. Reward yourself as often as you feel you need to - you deserve it!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Asking for help can be tough for some, since being independent and figuring things out yourself are so celebrated in society. However, keep in mind that asking for help and collaborating with others will have the effect of bringing about good feelings and positive collaborations that yield wonderful results with varying perspectives. Sometimes, help is exactly what you need to streamline a process or find a solution more efficiently. It doesn’t at all take away from your work or thoughts, but rather enhances your work and experience.
Listen to your body.
Our bodies are beautifully complex and at the same time, perfectly made. While everyone’s body is different, our bodies have the ability to show us when something is off. Because of this, you must take the time to listen to it and give it what it needs! Be sure to listen to your body when it’s tired and give it an adequate amount of rest and fuel. You have an incredible guidance system within you that is meant to help navigate through life as happily as possible, so pay attention and honor those feelings.
Practicing self-love can help enhance your well-being and shows you to be compassionate with yourself and therefore, others. Self-kindness helps you accept the fact that you are human and can make mistakes and still be worthy of love. This in turn, enhances the compassion you extend to others. Implementing these small changes and habits can lead to you feeling more empowered and to intentionally live life as the best version of yourself.
