Best Summer Stay-cation Ideas

Kids are out of school and you find work slowing down a bit during the summer season, which only means one thing: it’s time for a VACATION! Big vacation plans aren’t always feasible, but not to worry, because we have several stay-cation ideas for you to explore with your family or friends this summer that don’t require traveling too far.

Beach Day

Pack up a bag with your swimsuits, towels and sunscreen and head to the nearest beach. Whether you’re taking a trip to a lake or visiting the ocean, going to the beach (even for one day) is such a fun experience. If you want to make the most of your beach day, besides swimming, relaxing and soaking in the Vitamin D, we highly recommend bringing buckets for building sand castles, playing games like ladder ball and ring toss, and tossing around a frisbee or playing keep-ups with a beach volleyball. Music is a must, so bring a portable speaker and play your favourite summertime playlists throughout the day., And be sure to pack a picnic with lots of water and ALL THE SNACKS (we've got you covered with a Balanced Snack Box.)

Camping Trip

Camping is the perfect opportunity to step away from our fast-paced, busy lives and unplug. It’s a great way for your family to bond and explore a place you’re unfamiliar with. Find your nearest campgrounds and reserve a stay for the weekend. Make sure to pack plenty of board games, cards, and even instruments to play by the campfire. Oh, and don’t forget to bring graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows to make s’mores (because who doesn’t love s’mores?)

Cottage Getaway

If you’d rather not sleep in a tent, renting a cottage for the weekend is another great option to get away from your typical environment and routine. Apps like vrbo and AirBnB offer hundreds of beautiful cottages for you to choose from, whether it be in the woods, on a beach or in an urban city. Staying at one of these places will be a new experience for you and family or friends to enjoy, and you’ll create memories that will last a lifetime.

Amusement park

Amusement Park

If you love a good thrill (and a good time), going to an amusement park for the day is the perfect activity to bring hours of fun - along with an adrenaline rush. While you may not love the idea of waiting in line for rides, there are many fun things you can do to pass the time! A few rounds of "I Spy" can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike, or you can prepare a scavenger hunt in advance and be on the look-out for certain objects to check off your list. The Alphabet Game is another great game that involves some thinking as you work to find the letters of the alphabet from A-Z on things around you. Lastly, who doesn’t love an impromptu game of charades?!

If you’re not a huge fan of roller coasters, don’t stress! There are often many other activities that you can enjoy at an amusement park such as games, events/entertainment, delicious food, a water park, a picnic area, etc. There’s something for everyone, so be sure to explore it all!

Hotel with palm trees

Hotel Getaway

Looking to experience a little bit of luxury this holiday without breaking the bank? Have yourself a hotel stay, instead! Do some research on nearby boutique hotels or resorts that you’ve wanted to check out and reserve a room. This is your chance to leave your house for a few days and have other people clean up after you and cook you food for a change - sounds amazing, right?!

Overall, planning a vacation doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive. Taking a few days to unwind and get away from your normal atmosphere can really do wonders for your mind, body and soul. We hope these activities offer ways for you and your family to connect and learn new things, all while having fun.
