Packing a suitcase

Packing Tips for Vacation

Travelling is always something we look forward to as a way to de-stress and take a break from everyday life. Arriving at your destination and going about your activities while on vacation is amazing, but the preparation required beforehand can sometimes be chaotic. Whether you’re travelling by plane, car, train, or spaceship, we have a few tips for packing that will make vacation preparation much smoother.

Roll your clothes.

The traditional folding method is still preferred by some, but rolling your clothes provides a wrinkle-free solution without the requirement of an iron or steamer and allows you to easily identify items you’ve packed, without sifting through your suitcase. It’s also a great space saver!

Bundle your clothing by outfit.

Some of us already plan our outfits prior to packing so we know exactly what to wear. If you want to take it a step further, though, try bundling each piece of your outfit together before packing it in your luggage so that everything is in one place. Going off the tip above, you can even roll each component of the outfit together to form one bundle to make it easier to get dressed.

Use sandwich, quart and gallon zipper bags for easy organization.

Using everyday household items such as zipper bags or reusable food bags will allow for more organization in your suitcase. They have multiple uses and can store anything! From wet swimsuits that you want to keep separate from dry clothes to toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. to separating dirty laundry.

Bars of soap

Bring solid toiletries.

Most airlines/airports tend to have strict restrictions for packing liquids in a carry-on. Rather than worrying about how much body wash is acceptable or having to take the time to buy toiletries after you’ve arrived at your destination, consider bringing solid toiletries instead. You can buy solid perfume, makeup remover, bug balm, sunscreen, and even toothpaste tabs!

Pack the heavier items at the bottom.

Whether you’re packing a suitcase or backpack, be sure to distribute the weight that you’ll be lugging around properly. Packing heavy items at the base of your suitcase or backpack will ensure easier transport and will maximize the space in your luggage.

Make a packing list.

Making a checklist of all the items you’re planning on bringing on vacation days before departure is important, especially if you’re someone with a busy schedule or just someone that packs the night before (we’re all guilty of it at some point!). Gathering and buying items you’ll need for your trip can be made far less crazy if you have a visual aid. There are tons of pre-made packing lists online, too!

Travelling, and preparing to travel, alone or with family can be quite complex. Using these tips will hopefully help you feel more excitement and less worry, as they offer easy and effective solutions to make sure you’re travelling properly and happily! :)
