Spring Outdoor Fitness Activities

Hello Spring – you’re finally here and boy did we miss you! The sun is shining, the air is fresh, and the spring breeze is beckoning you to head outside. Want to make the most of the lovely spring weather? Lace up your shoes, and head outdoors for some spring fitness activities! Need some inspiration? We’ve got you covered!

Walk This Way
When the weather warms up, one of the first things we enjoy doing is heading outdoors for a walk. There is something invigorating about a brisk walk, when you can feel the warm sun on your face and see the first signs of spring all around you. A spring hike is also a great way to be physically active in a more rigorous or natural setting. Keep your eyes open and you’ll spot the first buds on the trees and the new grass shooting up. Listen for the birds chirping as well!

Jogging
One thing you’re sure to notice as we head further into spring, is an increase in people jogging outside. And with good reason! Jogging outside is not only a great form of physical activity, but it has better scenery then jogging indoors on a treadmill, the added benefit of Vitamin D and the fresh air boost we all crave! Not to mention that we tend work out longer when we jog outside instead of on a treadmill.

Yoga
What’s better than yoga? Outdoor yoga of course! Grab your yoga mat, and head to a shady spot in your backyard or a nearby park. Let the sounds of spring and the smell of fresh grass calm you as you practice your favourite yoga routine.

Biking
It’s finally time for that spring bike ride you’ve been dreaming about all winter long! Take a good look at your bike before you head out, and make sure that your tires have enough air, that the tread is still in good condition, that the brakes are tuned up and that the bike itself is still in good working condition. Then grab your helmet and hit the pavement!

Grab a Ball – Outdoor Sports are Back!
Dust off your gear and head outside! It’s time to play your favourite outdoor sport – baseball, soccer, basketball, tennis, football, street hockey, golf, etc. Outdoor sports are a great way to have fun while staying active.

Green Thumb = Healthy Body
It may not have occurred to you, but using your green thumb is a great way to get active outside! And spring is THE perfect time to get your garden ready. Digging holes, pulling weeds, mowing the lawn and planting all burn calories and the added Vitamin D from sun exposure is great as well!
