Popular Fall Beverage Flavours (That Aren't Pumpkin Spice)

Although summertime is coming to an end soon, our favourite time of the year is soon approaching! Fall isn’t just the season where leaves change colour and the weather cools down, it’s also the season where everyone craves yummy, warm beverages every single day without getting tired of them. We all know the PSL (pumpkin spice latte) will forever remain a classic and hold its title until the end of time, but we’ve come up with some other flavours to try in your beverages this fall if you’d like to switch it up!

Brown Butter

We’ve all seen brown butter lattes become increasingly popular recently, but this subtle flavour adds much dimension to any beverage! Because brown butter has such a rich, deep taste, it adds the perfect nutty, caramelly hint to your beverage. Try it in your coffee, tea and in boba, if you’re feeling up to it.

chai tea latte

Chai

A long-standing staple in several countries and cultures, chai is the flavour you never knew you needed. Originating in India, chai is a blend of black tea and herbs and spices. Fun fact – in India and some other countries, the word “chai” actually just means “tea!” As chai has become more popular in Western civilization though, many variations have been made of it. You can now find chai being used to describe a flavour in tea and coffee, as well as in pastries and foods. Chai-flavoured ANYTHING is sure to add a little spice to your day.

turmeric powder and spices

Turmeric

Another ingredient that has been used widely around the world for centuries, turmeric is actually a root that is often grounded into a spice and has multiple uses. Traditionally used medicinally, turmeric helps reduce inflammation and improves liver function. It is the main ingredient used to give some curries their golden colour! Turmeric is a great fall favourite to use in juice shots, smoothies, tea, and lattes.

Cranberry

Cranberry contains several antioxidant properties and gives an aromatic flavour to drinks when added. Cranberry can be used in teas, lattes, cocktails – you name it! Bonus: try pairing cranberry with orange to give any beverage a whole new dimension you’re sure to love.

Apple

We know you’ve probably heard it before but we can’t help but mention apples! Usually in-season during fall, apples can be added to teas, cocktails or even enjoyed as a warm (or cold) apple cider drink! When paired with cinnamon, the flavour is taken to a new level and becomes even more fall-esque. Try adding other warm spices to your apple-flavoured drinks - a bit of nutmeg and star anise are some of our favourites.

Amaretto

We’re used to seeing amaretto being used in recipes such as tiramisu and amaretto sour cocktails, but adding it to your fall beverage may just be the way to go. Having a strong almond flavour, with fruity undertones of cherry and apricot, amaretto is the perfect touch to add to your coffee, tea, or even your evening cocktail.

We don’t know about you, but reading this makes us crave a nice, warm beverage! It also makes us want to cuddle up in a plaid blanket with a book in hand. No matter where you are or what you’re doing while you’re enjoying a fall-flavoured drink, we hope you get to appreciate the fall spirit.
