Family Boredom Bucket

It’s Saturday afternoon. You’re home with the kids, when you hear the words every parent dreads – “I’m bored”. What now? What can you do to salvage the day? Not sure? It’s Boredom Bucket time! What is a boredom bucket you ask? Well, it’s an activity and a solution all in one. Start by creating the boredom bucket itself.

Materials needed:

  • craft sticks
  • markers
  • stickers (optional)
  • a bucket or jar

Directions:

  1. Gather the family.
  2. On each craft stick, have them write down ideas/activities they like to do or would like to try out (see our list below for some to help get you started).
  3. Put all the sticks into your bucket or jar.
  4. Pick a stick, and do the written activity.
  5. For added fun, you can have the kids decorate the bucket.

So, the next time your kids say the b word, tell them to grab the Boredom Bucket. And voila – activity chosen, and boredom busted. Don’t forget to take turns picking the activity. And when the bucket gets a little low, make the activity to replenish it!
